About

Ministry of Sound proudly present the fourteenth instalment in their iconic Chillout Sessions series with CHILLOUT SESSIONS XIV. More welcoming than a cooling breeze on the back of sun-kissed shoulders or that shaded palm just in from the shore, CHILLOUT SESSIONS XIV is a musical meditation destined to re-align even the most thrown zens with the best in dubbed-out acapella, the newest of nu-disco, stripped-back dance jams and acoustic anthems in a soulful celebration of electronic music. 41 moments from the likes of Gotye, Feist, Flight Facilities, Cut Copy, Lykke Li, Ben Westbeech, Azari & III, Aloe Blacc, The Temper Trap, and Blood Orange unite across two discs, sound-tracking your aural escape to where you should be.

I have followed chillout sessions for as long as I can remember- in all honesty, of the entire series, Chillout Sessions 1 was the best, and to this day remains unbeaten.
I'd actually say Chillout sessions 5, 2 and 8 were big disappointments. Like the previous disappointments, chillout sessions XIV is no exception. I always attempt to listen to a CD 3 times before I pass judgement- however, I find myself struggling to return to CD1 in addition to CD 2. These songs were not at all what I would have expected from such a longstanding, successful series- Yes they were indeed chillout, however, the songs played more like elevator music or background music on a Foxtel TV Guide- simply, there was nothing outstanding besides a track from Siriusmo, and a select other few from CD2 (which is the better of the two CDs). There were a few questionable songs, in particular, a variety of songs from CD 1 (too many to be mentioned) in addition to a few other good songs.

Overall the entire album is mediocre- it is definitely worth a listen to- if you are a long-term chillout sessions fan. However, I found the album to be overall, like the 2012 Annual, to be disappointing and inappropriate. This was inevitable however, given that Chillout sessions XIII, XII, XI to an extent, and X to be excellent compilations- like the disappointment of chillout sessions 5, chillout sessions XIV will hardly be cause for concern for the Chillout sessions series.

Probably was too quick to judge- I listened to it again, and I'd say, it's definitely worth a listen. I liked Disc 2 better- but that's usually the pattern with chillout sessions

To be honest, I actually love listening to disc 2- few questionable songs, but no harm done..

Did you know you mention, "Your listening to ministy of sound australia" 4 times in the first song! Seriously? It ruins the brand experience.

Finally! Have been waiting like forever for this one to come out. Is it me or does it seems as if the release date is pushed at a later time each year.

chill out sessions 1 and 6 were by far my favourites, this one has a few tracks that will feature in barbecues and such through summer but not make memories like 6 did
