One night in a garage, two years ago. Four friends start a band through their love of electro jams, psych guitars and sci-fi atmospherics. They cut their first demos, influenced by futuristic classics like the Bladerunner soundtrack, 80’s Pink Floyd, Vangelis, Can and the theme from Dr. Who. Fascinated by cosmic realms, they call themselves MISSION CONTROL.
The band's Myspace demos attract attention from French house legend Philippe Zdar, the Cassius hitmaker and producer/remixer of Phoenix, Air and Daft Punk. He starts featuring Mission Control on his own Myspace page. Back in Australia, the guys are impressing audiences with their live mash-up of haunting melody, dancefloor hooks and interstellar noise.
Fast forward to February 2008. After countless hours in their makeshift studio, Mission Control sign to new label etcetc, also home to acclaimed innovators The Knife, PNAU, Digitalism and Mylo. They also join the select roster at the Modular agency.
In April 2008, Mission Control play their biggest gig to date, sharing the V Festival’s Yellow Stage with The Presets and CSS. The band soon embark on their first headline tour.
Mission Control’s debut single Chariots Of Fire is out soon on etcetc/Universal Music.
This is an exciting EP from Melbourne outfit Mission Control - dark, compelling and awesome - even Sydney folk like it, so it must be good. Stay tuned for their full length ...
