Who doesn't love a good comfort dish to warm you up on cold Winters day? As we gear up for Winter, we asked our good friends Nick & Stu from Set Mo to share their Top 5 Comfort Food dishes. It only seems fitting since their most recent release 'Comfort You' featuring the talents of Melbourne artist Fractures, is cooking up a storm online (hitting #11 on the iTunes Electronic Chart). With a well-filled touring schedule that includes multiple national tours, as well as hitting the road for every major festival around the country from Splendour In The Grass to Beyond The Valley, the Set Mo guys have certainly spent some time dining on the road - but from what we hear, the guys do enjoy some of their ultimate dishes while writing in the studio in their hometown, Sydney.
Check our Set Mo's Top 5 Comfort Foods below, and don't forget to grab their latest release 'Comfort You' here.
Set Mo are currently hitting the road on their nationwide tour - check out the full tour dates below.
We're huge fans of nearly all noodle soups and when it gets to those cooler months of the year we live off the stuff! Pho has a delicious rich beef broth soup which is heavy on the herbs. There's a few good spots near our studio in China Town such as Pho Pasteur and Pho Gia Hoi but the real winners are when you go out west and go to some of the densely Vietnamese populated suburbs. One of the best we've tried out there is Pho An in Bankstown.
No comfort food list would be complete without Pizza! There's about a billion places you can get pizza in Sydney depending on what you like. Our preference is nice thin bases with minimal toppings, 2-3 max. We love the pizzas at Coogee Pavilion that are just like this and cooked in a woodfire oven.
After a big night out on the town you need a breakfast to comfort you and few things will do that quite as well as chicken and waffles (along with a bloody mary of course)! To be honest we haven't come across anywhere that does this really well in Sydney but here's a photo of some we found in LA at the Standard Hotel where we were staying and yes, they were as delicious as they look here.
We fricking love ramen! We literally go all over Sydney to try and find the best one - it's a constant search. This rich pork based noodle soup is what we crave when we need a little comforting. Again ramen comes down to personal preference but for us it must have a slightly fatty broth, perfect running yolk egg and the noodles perfectly chewy (not overdone). Our current favourite is Chaco Bar - they've got it down to a fine art.
We really enjoying eating. Out of all the things we like eating burgers would be right up the top of that list. A great burger is the ultimate comfort food. We like our burgers pretty simple; beef, cheese, lettuce, tomato and sauce on a thin bun. There's lots of great burgers in Sydney but three of our favourite spots in no particular order would be Mary's, Burger Project and Pub Life.
