After dominating the Beatport and ARIA charts alongside SCNDL with ‘Bleed’, Timmy Trumpet backs it up with another belter original. ‘Freaks’ contains the perfect ingredients for a dance floor dominating anthem, booming kick drums, sharp rave synths, an addictive hook-line garnished with a dash of Melbourne. We spoke to Timmy whilst in the USA to see how weird everything's getting.
Hey Timmy! Heard you're in Miami. How is it?
It's been amazing. I've had more meetings than gigs this year which is exciting.
What’s been the most whack thing you’ve seen there so far?
P. Diddy's house party was pretty whack. It was like a video clip. He was rapping on top of the roof.
Any stand out DJ sets?
The Stafford Brothers at Ultra Music Festival were insane! They know how to party.
‘Freaks’ is killing it in the Top 10 on Beatport and Top 5 on the ARIA Club Chart, what else are you getting up to this year?
I've got an Asia tour in a few weeks then back to Oz for a national tour, then back to the states for a US tour.
We’re still listening to ‘Bleed’ which you released last year with SCNDL. Any other upcoming collabs?
My new record 'The Buzz' is a collaboration with New World Sound and comes out April 15. It's already being played by Hardwell and a bunch of other big guys! Hopefully it does well because I've put a lot of work into it, including recording a full big band.
What are some of your favourite tracks to play out at the moment?
Loving Chardy and Stevie Mink's 'Yoo' as well as Henry Fong's 'Stand Up'.
What music do predict will be big in 2014?
Your guess is as good as mine but one thing's for sure - it will keep adapting and changing. I like this because it keeps the game exciting and opens up doors for new upcoming producers. There is so much talent in Australia and I can't wait to see the future of this industry.
