Amongst the strong contingency of Dutch artists, Pep & Rash have joined the club with a string of banging releases bearing the 'Future House' label, including their bubbly anthem Rumors, and a remix of Tchami's Promesses. Popping up as an ID (unidentified) track just before the new year in an Oliver Heldens radio show, their track Rumors has undoubtedly become one of the biggest house singles of the year, cracking the #1 spot on the Beatport charts, and receiving major support from top DJs like Tiesto, Martin Garrix, Hardwell and Afrojack. The rumours are true with these boys, they have plenty more up their sleeve as they take on the world, festival by festival. We got on the phone to Pep & Rash ahead of the release of Rumors in Australia and New Zealand.
1. First of all, where in the world are you right now?
Thanks! We are happy to be home at the moment, in the Dutch province of Zealand, back in the studio to finish some work.
2. Tell us a bit about yourselves?
I am Pep. My real name is Jesse van de Ketterij. I'm 26 years old and born in Middelburg (Holland), love to listen classical music but also do a bit of gaming and cooking delicious food.
I'm Rash, my real name is Rashid el Uarichi. I'm 33 years old and was born in Nador (Morocco). I love EDM and I spend lots of time playing football and doing some fishing.
3. How did you guys find each other?
We have been friends for years now. We met each other through another friend of ours. When we started to work on music together, Pep & Rash was born instantly.
4. How did the track Rumors come about?
Well, it all started with the vocal. We worked on it for a few days to get it just perfect. Then we pitched it down and everything seemed to fit perfectly. After that we were searching for a sexy, groovy and funky Pep & Rash drop with different elements in it. It worked out really well together with the rest, but the inspiration came from the vocal!
5. With worldwide success of 'Rumors' including a Beatport #1 and heaps of radio play, did you ever think about how successful the track would be?
We knew it was a good track as we felt the vibe from the beginning. But we never expected it to do so well so quickly!
6. How did it feel gaining major support from the likes of Martin Garrix, Hardwell, Avicii and Afrojack?
It feels great!! The track already got early support from Oliver Heldens, so we had a feeling it was a good track. But we didn't expect the support of the big guys like Tiësto, Hardwell, Pete Tong and Martin Garrix. So yeah, it was a surprise it got so popular, really happy it did though.
7.Your sound ventures into the 'Future House' genre? How would you guys describe it?
Our style is a combination of different elements (future, deep, garage, latin, tech, electro). It's a sexy, groovy and funky sound, real cool in my opinion, but still accessible for everybody.
8.Can we expect a follow up hit to Rumors? Is there any news you can spill on what we can expect from you for the rest of the year?
There is definitely new music coming up real soon. Can't say too much at the moment, but keep an eye on our socials!
9.You guys are relatively new to the scene, have you guys had any crazy DJ experiences that you can share with us?
No, not yet. But gonna work on some crazy experiences this summer!
10.Cliché Question Alert: What is the best rumour you have heard about Pep & Rash?
Sander van Doorn mentioned us as artists to watch in 2015.
11.Last but not least, do you prefer Burgers or Pizza?
We love good burgers!
Rumors is out now on iTunes
