Colour Castles’ Top 5 House Music Samples

Sampling has always been a massive part of electronic dance music as it allows producers to reprogram and mix different styles and genre's into their own brand of electronic music. Being no stranger to music sampling, Colour Castle has masterfully chopped up Loleatta Holloway's classic, 'Love Sensation', to craft his ARIA Club #1 single "Walk Right In". In "Walk Right In", Colour Castle used the soulful vocals of Loleatta Holloway, and surrounded it with a mesmerising 2016 bassline workout to form the brand new club banger.

Given his success in the art form, we thought we'd find out which samples and samplers are his favorite amongst the house music genre - here are his top 5.

1. Loleatta Holloway - "Love Sensation"

Colour Castle - Fairly obvious as to why I love this sample, thanks for the pipes Loleatta, I wonder what she would say If she was still around to hear the song today.

2. Camille Yarbrough - "Take Yo' Praise"

Colour Castle - The master Fatboy Slim creating 'Praise You' with this dope vocal sample cut from the start of her record. For me this just shows what can be done to completely re-create and re-vibe a track from its original intentions.

3. Armand Van Helden - "You Don't Know Me'

Colour Castle - Probably my favourite artist who uses samples, with a long list of tracks one of my favs being "You Don't Know Me" combines a couple different samples from different eras of music & a fresh vocal.

4. Toni Braxton - "You're Makin' Me High"

Colour Castle - Sampled in Second City I Wanna Feel, a small sample turned into an emotional house jam!

5. Toots & the Mayals - "54-46 was my number"

Colour Castle - Recreated as "My Sister - Weiss". Track is just a bomb one of my favourites.
