"Whoa, Bob! What the fuck is this? Fucking disco music? You can’t be serious! This is fucking bullshit! Turn those fucking guitars up!”
So bemoans Tommy Lee (a man who clearly just discovered the f-word) on his new Bloody Beetroots collaboration, ‘RAW’ – a track in which the ever-youthful drummer tries to draw a line between rock music and its electronic cousin. Of course, this is all intended to be a bit tongue-in-cheek, because, if anything, the just-dropped video for the song only serves to highlight just how much the lines have already blurred between Tommy’s excessive world of 80s cock rock and the debauched EDM scene today.
In the video, The Bloody Beetroots’ Sir Bob Cornelius Rfio and Tommy take it upon themselves to tear the shit out of an old warehouse in downtown LA (because what else is there to do when you have nothing but free time and millions of dollars at your disposal?). With Sir Bob on guitar and Tommy behind the kit, the duo pack a stroby and schizophrenic punch, complete with smoke, middle finger salutes, neon lights, paint, glitter, sweat, spit and what we sure hope is milk. The whole thing is wild and (the best kind of) exhausting, and makes us realise that there’s no need for competition: the rocks kids and the dance kids both know how to party.
