10. Snowball Festival

First on the list is the Colorado based festival (and first of many with the name 'snow' in it) Snowball Festival. Based in Winter Park, the festival has been operating for a cool 4 years before announcing a gap year in the 2015 schedule. The Snowball Festival crew have however announced a March 2016 return and with a 2014 lineup consisting of Knife Party, GTA, Pretty Lights, Kill The Noise, Lunice and What So Not, you can only expect big things when it returns.

Where: Winter Park, Colorado, USA
When: TBA

9. Rise Festival

Held in the beautiful French resort of Les Deux Alpes, the mountainside location is transformed into a party mecca by the snow. Home to the largest ski-able glacier in Europe, and 220km of slopes, your skiing and snowboarding needs will be met with heaps of runs and tons of snow. Playing host to some of the world's biggest acts, Rise festival also hosts parties from some of the biggest music brands from around the globe including Rinse FM, Hospitality Records, Ibiza Rocks and Eton Messy.

Where: Les Deux Alpes, Isere, France
When: 10th - 17th December

8. The Brits

With over 25 years of history, the Brits is one of the longest running festivals on the mountains. With a strong focus on the slopes, the Brits is well known for its snow sports championships over the week long event. Don't be put off if you aren't a snow sport enthusiast, as the festival is known for it's next level partying. Alongside the world class snowboard competition, you can expect some of the most off the hook après sessions. Note: this is no big EDM festival however with multiple acts coming in and out of the Tignes resort, you can catch some of dance music's finest playing the odd show. Aside from the resident DJs and Bands, we've heard of Chase & Status, Pendulum and DJ Yoda showing up for a few sneaky shows.

Where: Tignes, Savoie, France
When: 21st-28th March

7. Snowglobe

Imagine spending three days leading into the New Year by a Ski-resort/music festival….that would be unreal right? Ski by day, party by night is the general theme at Snowglobe Music Festival with an impressive lineup that boasts headliners like Disclosure, Flume, Porter Robinson, Skrillex and Zedd, all in one weekend. Despite being in California, South Tahoe can reach an easy -10 C, but don't let that put you off as it only gives you further reason to warm up and party. With hundreds of random heaters scattered around the festival as well as heated tents with lounges and fully stocked bars, you can always take a break and indulge on an incredible snowy holiday.

When: 29th December – 1st January
Where: South Lake Tahoe, CA , USA

6. Contact Winter Music Festival

Surprisingly Contact Winter Music Festival is the only stadium festival in the list, and boy is this one massive. Usually taking place between Christmas and New Years Eve, Contact Festival is one of the only 2-day festivals in the province of British Columbia, attracting people from all over. As one of the largest festivals in Western Canada, the event has partied with some of the biggest headliners in the world including Deadmau5, Armin Van Buuren, Zedd, Skrillex and Kaskade. Contact Winter Music Festival provides the Winter festival madness right in downtown Vancouver, so there is no road-trips for this mother of a festival.

Where: Vancouver, Canada
When: 26th-27th December
