5. Igloofest

Not necessarily a one day music festival, rather a showcase of artists over 4 weekends is Montreal's famous Igloofest. Held in the old ports or Montreal, Igloofest is the ultimate combination of culture, design and music. Bringing together icy décor, steel structures, powerful architectural projections and a programme of some of the world's best house and techno DJs in the world, Igloofest is definitely one of the finer festivals that brings a culture of music lovers together. 2016 will saw heavyweights Bonobo, Brodinkski, Modeselektor, TIGA along with Trap lord Lunice. Other artists who appeared over the four weeks of shows include Cherokee, Grandtheft & Baya to name a few. This is one to add to the bucket list.

Where: Montreal, QC, Canada
When: 16th January – 8th February

4. Rave On Snow

Austria is known for hosting some of the biggest Winter parties and it is Rave On Snow that has been leading the charge. Year after year, the festival provides a unique lineup of the very best in house and techno. This is a simple good times, good vibes festival. Operating since 1993, Rave On Snow has brought some of the best strictly house and techno sounds to the town of Saalbach/ Hinterglemm. One of the highlights of the festival is the Gipfel Party, which takes place on the peak of the Schattberg mountain, 2000m above sea level. During the daytime there's over 200km of ski/snowboard runs to explore, and by night the whole village is transformed into a vibrant festival ground, surrounded by snow covered mountains.

3. Snowboxx

If Europe is your thing and hitting the slopes is priority, Snowboxx Festival is a must. While the festival is only 4-years young, Snowboxx has become a sell-out festival that is attracting people from all around the globe. Since relocating to its new location in the Alpe d'Huez, France, Snowboxx has gone on to host the legendary acts of 2manydjs and Jungle as well as other established acts Blonde, TCTS, Eton Messy, Tieks, Stormzy and Horse Meat Disco. Music aside, this festival ticks all the boxes as it is the home to one of the longest ski runs in the world. When it comes to ticketing, they have some seriously awesome packages that include accommodation, festival tickets and lift passes. You can also be a part of the annual Guinness World Record attempt as they try to aim to get the most amount of people skiing on the same run at one time IN ONESIES!

When: TBA March

2. Horizon Festival

When they promote their festival as “Over 100 International DJs, 70km of slopes, 30 parties, mountain stages, abandoned hotel raves, secret parties, super clubs, intimate venues, forest paintball and flash mob ski downs", you know that Horizon Festival means business. Horizon Festival will make the underground house and techno lovers weak with Moodyman, DJ EZ, Submotion Orchestra and Ben UFO all performing at its most recent gathering, and while the festival is still young, it is gathering bass enthusiasts from around Europe. In fact, it is the Londoners who are putting Horizon Festival on the map. Don't expect a mammoth main stage production as Horizon plays host to less than 2,000 guests, however has it proven to be a cutting edge festival with previous lineups including break out artists like Route 94, Ben Pearce and Bondax. And price wise….you probably won't find a better deal anywhere.

Where: Bankso, Bulgaria
When: TBA March

1. Snowbombing

If you're familiar with skiing in Europe (which you're probably not, otherwise you'd be there right now), you'd now that the Mayrhofen ski area is one of the finest skiing and snowboarding areas in the whole of Europe. If you are die hard music lover, festival goer and skier, then Snowbombing is most certainly for you. Year after year Snowbombing puts on one hell of a lineup.
