In 2003, Levi felt the need to take the profession of DJ’ing to new levels and took it live. Drawing from his nurtured musical upbringing as the son of two jazz musicians, Levi formed his own collective La Fiesta Sound System, consisting of afro percussion, vocals and horns to the mix. These days, La Fiesta have become an institution in Australia. An impressive tour schedule has seen them headline some of the biggest festivals in Australia such as Big Day Out (60 000+), Good Vibrations (25 000+) and The Falls Festival (25 000+) notching up over 500 gigs under their belt, including the current band of choice for the events for Nova FM (National music station), Fashion TV, M&C Saatchi and SBS (National TV station).
With a dominant Latin flavour for many years, incorporating DJ sets across South America, he was invited to the legendary AKA (London UK) in 2003. In the same year, Levi teamed up with his with international popstar sister, Antigone and wonderkid producer, Justin Shave [Love Tattoo] fame, to launch Etherfox. ‘The Whirled You Live’, signed by leading house label –Hussle Recordings. Instantly creating an international club hit, Levi was picked up by the likes of Blanco y Negro in Spain and Drizzly for GAS with licensing to Hed Kandi’s Beach House. Success also locally came in the form of being on high rotation by national radio station, Nova FM and nominated for 2 National Dance Music Awards (Levi even joined the live performance for national broadcast) 2005 and Levi’s Latino lust reached its peak with his very first record, La Fiesta Sound System’s ‘Dancando’ labeled on Brian Tappert’s Soulfuric Records, ranked the world’s finest Latin House label. With no other Australian ever signed to Soulfuric Records, it became a great achievement for Levi. Remixes soon followed and ‘Dancando’ was licensed to seminal house label Om Records, Purple Music and FTV, cementing Levi 5star’s standing in the world wide house music scene.
After twice to featuring on Australia’s biggest and most respected national dance radio program, JJJ’s Mixup, Levi sought more creative control and influence in his musical direction, launching his very own Denim Label in 2008. With his debut single, ‘Another You’, it featured the amazing vocals of Michelle Martinez, a young and promising soul singer, now recognised as one of Australia’s best and has recently featured on all 4 of his label’s releases.
In 2008 at the WMC (Miami) Levi 5 Stars releases made its way to the record boxes of Mark Knight, Fedde Le Grande, Chris Lake, Kaskade, Dirty South, David Guetta and Carl Cox to name a few. Licensed in the UK, Japan, South Africa and Australia, impressively positioned on EMI’s Seminal Future POP volume 2.0 CD.Gaining continual respect from the Dance Music industry and seeing a need for a professional outlet for the booking of artists, it seemed only fitting to create Quality Control Entertainment. Incorporating event production, QCE are now one of the most highly regarded and frequently utilised providers of Australia’s biggest parties. In a commercial coup, Levi secured the business of national TV, radio and telecommunications providers, including Channel 7, SBS, Nova 969, ING, AAPT, Virgin and Telstra. The year is 2009 and Denim has maintained memento by releasing a further two singles. First a nasty DnB anthem ‘Melt Inside’ with the acclaimed Stonebridge, claiming it for his ‘Armada Mix in Amsterdam’ CD and Andrew Friendly (UK) mashing it up with his fired-up ‘It’s the Weekend’ feat MC Fast Eddie. In October, the haunting ‘Runaway’, once again featuring Michelle Martinez, gained support from Ministry of Sound Radio, including it in its high rating ‘Then and Now’ show.
